summer fun pictures

there really isn't much to say about most of these pictures. they are simply ones that have captured parts of our summer so far. they are mixed together and possibly out of order but i just love the way they capture the kids and the joy of life.

the joy of exploring, the joy of being outside, the joy of just being. does it get better then that?
watching your kids love to do things that you remember doing. running through the grass barefoot until you felt like you were going to fly.

loving to "drive" anything with wheels because that's what grown-ups did and it was just so fun.

riding on a swing and trying to get your feet to touch the sky. oh if only they would stretch just a little farther.

watching the bright colors of summer become the backdrop to the most beautiful things you have ever seen or ever will ... your children just being who they are. hope you're having a wonderful summer and enjoying every moment.

wonderful water

the kids are loving the water this summer. well, most of it. asher's not too sure he likes the big
pool .. okay he really didn't like it but as you can see he loves the pool in the backyard. i think we just have to get him in the big pool more often and he'll be fine.

then the other day it started to rain when we were out playing. mia wanted to stay outside and play in the rain, so we did. it was just a nice summer shower. still warm but definately getting ya wet. it's one of those memories that my kids may not remember but i will. where the rules get suspended and time kind of seems to stand still while you watch your children enjoy such a simple thing that brings them so much joy. it's a blessing when you realize you're in one of those moments ... here's to both creating and noticing them more. hooray for kids!

pete's project

so most of you know that we're in the process of moving into a new house. before we move in the house needed a little facelift and of course as with any remodel project what you think is minor quickly becomes not so minor. oh the joys of an older house. =) the basement is the major project. what started off as simply replacing old dated panelling with drywall soon became insulating (something not previously done) and completely re-wiring the entire basement. we figure it's not really safe to have outlets just mounted to old panelling and not in an electric box ... don't you wonder what people were thinking sometimes? this is in addition to repainting every room, redoing the hardwood floors upstairs, and replacing the trim so it all matches (yes, there were several rooms that simply beat to their own drummer in the trim department) needless to say he has been a busy boy and we are totally in debt to our families who have been helping us out with all of our projects. thank you, thank you, thank you!

here's jimmy beginning the demo work on the painted wood panelling. he always seems to be around to help with the demo stuff ... hmmmm. =) and here's one pretty wall that wasn't painted. and some parts were drywalled. i mean what fun is matching??

and up goes the drywall. hooray. pete also ripped out a closet down here to expand the kids' playroom and built an under the stairs playplace that the kids already love. it's been a project but it already looks so much better and is so much lighter. hooray for having a really handy husband and family and friends who are willing to help out! more pictures to come i'm sure. =)

the busy life....

okay so yet again the blog has been quiet for way too long. i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry. i keep meaning to do better and things are just a little too nuts, or i'm just a little too tired to do it. i'll try to be better but do not make any promises. =)

so what have we been doing?? here's the brief updates:

we had mia's rescheduled party and the kids had a blast playing and climbing at the indoor playground. she never realized that her original one had been rescheduled (hooray that she's not that good with time yet) and had an absolute blast with her friends. she talked about it for days afterward. and yes, pete's tickle me elmo sculpted out of rice krispie treats worked! it turned out great and the kids loved it (so did the parents!)

we've gone to the zoo. an adventure to say the least. took both kids by myself on probably one of the most humid days we've had so far (humidity and i do not get along...especially now that i'm in my third trimester) and both of them wanted to walk - of course in opposite directions. once we got that figured out and the hugely pregnant mom got to stop running after children things went great. we had fun looking at all the animals and trying to see what we could find. surprisingly most of them were out and lying around whatever water feature was in their enclosure. mia's favorite is still the snake house. don't know where that came from, don't know how long it will last but every time she's asked what her favorite animal is her consistant answer is "giraffes and snakes". oh well. =)

checking out the farm animals inside the barn

climbing up to get a better view of the mountain lion

signs of a good day!!

we've been playing outside ... alot! our favorite spots are the beach, the walking park that's close to our house, any park we can find (the definition of a park to a 3 year old and a 19 month old means the area has play equipment and at least a few slides and preferably some swings!) and our own backyard. as you can see, we're not all that picky as long as we're out.

we also got to see pete's youngest brother graduate from high school. congrats jimmy! we're so proud of you. now look out college here he comes! this is him with mom and dad.
